SonetoSmart Client Back-Office Solution using SQL Server 2005
In 2004 we set out to rebuild Visitrax, our legacy home care management system used
in over three hundred home care locations. Starting from the ground up and taking full advantage of the knowledge we had acquired in our first five years of offering solutions to private duty, Medicare certified and staffing agencies, we embarked on project "Soneto".
We wanted Soneto to be web-based, but did not like the feedback we were receiving
from experienced software developers and users on the drawbacks of web browser based
systems. Our new system needed both the rich user interface of a traditional client-server system and the availability and ease of deployment of web-based systems.
We decided to build Soneto using Microsoft Smart Client Technology, a sophisticated
development
paradigm which eliminates the need for running web based applications within a browser
such as Internet Explorer (see Microsoft white paper Smart Clients in Business: Expanding the Edges of the Enterprise Network). By using this state of the art development methodology, we are able to deliver both
the rich, responsive user interface of client-server application and the wide scale
access of web-based software.
